In Guyer’s first season at the Class 5A level, the Wildcats represented on the field, earning a trip to the 5A Division II state championship game, which they lost in the final minutes, and off the field as they netted several awards from the postseason District 7-5A all-district team meeting.

Walsh’s pass was intercepted by Cibolo Steele cornerback Kwame Clark with 1:31 remaining, and Malcolm Brown converted a first down to run out the clock, and Guyer’s season, in a 24-21 win at the Class 5A Division II championship at Cowboys Stadium.
Guyer went on to a miraculous 28-27 win over Longview on Saturday, which puts the Wildcats in the Class 5A Division II state championship game against Cibolo Steele next Saturday at Cowboys Stadium.

The win puts Guyer in the Class 5A Division II state semifinals, where it will face Longview, which ousted Guyer from the playoffs in the Class 4A semifinals the previous two seasons. The game is slated for noon Saturday at SMU’s Ford Stadium.

Denton Guyer downs Southlake Carroll, 24-14, behind QB J.W. Walsh’s 315 yards of total offense
Quarterback J.W. Walsh scrambled to buy some time before finding Cameron Hunter in the right corner of the end zone for a touchdown pass that gave Guyer a lead it would never relinquish in a 24-14 victory over Carroll in the Class 5A Division II Region I final at Vernon Newsom Stadium.

It was a rematch of a regular-season game in which Guyer lost to Cedar Hill in a 42-41 overtime thriller on Labor Day, also at Cowboys Stadium.
The Wildcats (10-2) move on to face old Class 4A foe Abilene Cooper next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cowboys Stadium in the Region I semifinals. Guyer eliminated Cooper from the 4A playoffs in the third round the past two seasons.

Saturday, the Longhorns (8-4) never led as Guyer (10-2) advanced to face Abilene Cooper in the regional quarterfinal round at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cowboys Stadium.

On a fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line with 43 seconds remaining, a potential game-tying touchdown pass from Deion Sanders Jr. to Taylor Smith was ruled out of bounds by inches in Marcus’ 35-28 loss to Denton Guyer in a Class 5A Division II, Region I bi-district playoff game.
Guyer scored on two of its final three possessions of the game, forcing Marcus to drive the ball down the field in an attempt to tie the score.

SOUTHLAKE — Guyer entered Friday with a 4-0 all-time record at Southlake’s famed Dragon Stadium, with the wins coming in neutral-site playoff games.
